Jesus Prayer
On October 23, Fr. André gave a homily on the "Jesus Prayer" at Assumption Church, in which he mentioned a couple of books:
- Franny & Zooey by J.D. Salinger - Link to the Amazon store page
- The Way of a Pilgrim and The Pilgrim Continues His Way by Helen Bacovcin (Translator), Walter J. Ciszek, S.J. (Foreword) - Link to the Amazon store page
"In the book, the Pilgrim is searching for an answer to St. Paul’s words to pray always. The Jesus Prayer is rooted in the prayer of the tax collector in Luke 18:13 - O God, be merciful to me, a sinner!
The Jesus prayer is prayed today:
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner!
Again, many thoughts occupy our minds constantly throughout the day. Repetition of this ancient prayer can focus us on God, on God’s Son, Jesus. Give it a try because we have nothing to lose except the trivial meandering of our minds."
