It is with a heavy heart that we bid farewell to Fr. Lakmin Silva after more than two years of excellent priestly service in our Parish. I know that you all agree that Fr. Silva’s deep spirituality and his kind and gentle temperament were a blessing and deeply appreciated by the clergy and all our people. We will miss him. Until we get a handle on the virus and I am able to have another priest assigned to us, Fr. Novio and myself, with the help of some priests from outside the parish, will carry on with parish life. It has been a delight to live these years with Fr. Silva.
Fr. Silva will fly home, during this difficult time, on Thursday, January 14th, and I have promised Fr. Silva that we will pray for him and his safe arrival home and in his new job as President of a college in Colombo, the capital of his native Island of Sri Lanka.
All the best to him and many blessings.
Fr. Anthony Sorgie
Fr. Silva received word on January 3 that he was being called back to Sri Lanka by the Cardinal of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He will be flying to Sri Lanka on Thursday, January 14. Read Fr. Silva's heartfelt goodbye HERE. We livestreamed Fr. Silva's last weekend Mass in our parish on Sunday, January 10, at 5 PM.
If you see Fr. Silva at Mass or around the neighborhood before Thursday, please extend to him a fond farewell and a warm "thank you" for his years with us. Father has become part of our family here, and we will carry him in our hearts as he returns home to carry on his priestly service. May Fr. Silva remember us just as fondly as we will remember him. Safe travels and God Bless!
